The complicated foster care and family court systems are confusing and frightening for foster children, especially since most do not have a stable adult presence in their lives to guide them. That is why we have partnered with CASA for Children to train court appointed volunteers to provide one-on-one advocacy – and a mentor they can rely on – and more for children waiting to be placed in loving, permanent homes.
How We Are Partners
Not only do we provide tens of thousands of toys for foster children to CASA through our Toy Bank, our $200,000 grant is funding quality training to increase the number of volunteer advocates in CASA’s national network. Direct services at three local CASA programs (Los Angeles, Indiana, and New Jersey) are also being financed by our grant funding.
The Difference We Make Together
Historically, CASA has served 35% of the children in the foster care system. Thanks to TIF funding and toys, CASA will be able to serve more children than ever before by training additional volunteers and helping them build trust with the children through play.
To join the effort, toy companies can donate toys (.pdf), and anyone is welcome to contribute funds in support of this partnership.
"For every foster child with a CASA volunteer, two others go it alone," says Michael Piraino, CASA President & CEO. "This generous gift from the Toy Industry Foundation will help increase our services to children in need while bringing joy, comfort and hope directly to thousands of our most vulnerable citizens."
